Thank you for your interest in becoming a volunteer for Regional Animal Shelter!

As a volunteer, your time commitment will vary depending on your assignment preferences and the openings we have.

If working with the animals, we request a minimum of 2-2.5 hours (one shift) per week for shelter workers. There is some flexibility in scheduling, but a commitment of 8-10 hours per month, for 6 months (one semester for college students) is appreciated. Volunteers are asked to support and promote the mission of Regional Animal Shelter and abide by the shelter’s written volunteer policies.  Shelter volunteers must be 18 year of age, or 16+ with signed parental consent. We are currently unable to accept applications for volunteers younger than 16, even with parental consent, but younger individuals are encourages to apply for our RASE Program. Volunteers must have a completed application, volunteer agreement, and liability release form on file and have attended orientation, as well as training if working with the animals.

Steps to Becoming a Volunteer

  • Complete and submit a volunteer application: You will receive an email within two weeks after submission along with the upcoming orientation dates. It is highly recommended that you add volunteer@regionalanimalshelter.org to your safe list.
  • Group Orientation: We hold two orientations a month. The day and time varies, in order to give everyone an opportunity to attend.  All volunteers with animals at home will be asked to show proof of vaccination (rabies and distemper for cats and ferrets, rabies and 5-in-1 for dogs). Please bring this paperwork with you to orientation.
  • Training: At orientation you will sign up for your one-on-one training with an experienced volunteer. This training session usually takes 2 hours.

We look forward to meeting you soon!

We are training for all shifts, but we need the most help on weekday mornings and weekend afternoons.  We always need help with our fundraisers and community outreach! We need you as we are working on raising funds to take care of our animals and construct our new facility so we can help all of our furry friends! Thank you!
