Why build a new facility?
Shelters everywhere are full, including Regional. We’re currently working out of an 8 kennel facility (our “Annex”), with the ability to have 6 additional dogs in collapsible crates in our isolation ward/office. Because of our size and our contractual obligation to the City of Gloversville, we are unable to take surrenders from people within the community who are unable to successfully re-home their dogs. We are also unable to take in cats, as we do not have the space to do so.
Once completed, our new facility will ideally include:
- separate dog and cat rooms, ideally with radiant heat flooring
- accommodations for other small animals (mammals and reptiles)
- accommodations for large animals
- an on premise surgical room to offer low-cost spay and neuter programs
- a grooming area
- visiting rooms for families to meet their newest furry additions
- a lobby with a gift shop
- a memorial garden and a dog walk (with the bricks from our fundraising campaign! Want a brick? You can purchase one here!!)
What needs to be done?
We currently own a 26 acre parcel in the Town of Johnstown. After years of researching and a feasibility study, the land is not amenable to our needs. We are actively looking for a new plot to build on, or an existing structure to retrofit. Once a building or parcel is selected, we can retrofit or design a building that will suit or needs.

How much do you need?
We believe a complete facility will cost us $500,000. We hope to secure at least half of that via grants
How does this brick thing work?
These laser-engraved bricks are a wonderful way to honor a cherished pet or loved one, and will last a lifetime. We are offering bricks in three different sizes with three different set donation amounts: 4×8 for $100, 8×8 for $200, and 12×12 for $400. Prices include text and optional artwork – you can use either the clipart provided or upload your own photo. All proceeds from the brick will go into Regional’s Building Fund, and the purchased brick will be used to create a memorial dog walk at the new facility, wherever it may be. If you would like to commemorate your brick purchase, you are able to purchase a replica tile containing text and artwork for $20 (which will go to you, not the shelter!).
